How to convert a PDF to Word to edit the text
Last updated: 9 October 2026
When you need to reuse or edit the words in a PDF — a letter, an article, a policy — converting it to a Word document is the fastest way to get the text back into an editor.
Ready? Open the free PDF to Word tool.
Open PDF to WordStep by step
- Open PDF to Word.
- Select one PDF.
- Click Convert to Word, then Download .docx.
- Open the file in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages and edit as normal.
What to expect
PDFmoor extracts the PDF’s text into an editable document, page by page. It is built for getting the words back out, not for pixel-perfect copies: complex layouts, tables and images are not reproduced. For text-heavy documents that is usually exactly what you want.
My PDF is a scan — the Word file is empty
A scanned PDF is a picture of a page, so there is no text to extract. Run it through OCR PDF first: it recognises the English text and gives you a searchable PDF and a .txt file. Then convert the OCR’d PDF to Word.
Only need a small change?
If you just want to add a line, fix a date or cover a mistake, you don’t need to convert at all. Edit PDF and Annotate PDF let you add text and marks directly on the page.
Your file never leaves your device.
