How to convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG

Last updated: 18 October 2026

You took a photo on an iPhone, sent it to your computer or tried to upload it to a form, and it won't open — or the website says the format isn't supported. The culprit is HEIC, the format iPhones use by default. Here is what it is and how to convert it.

Ready? Open the free HEIC to JPG tool.

What is HEIC?

HEIC (also called HEIF) is a modern image format that stores photos at roughly half the size of a JPG with similar quality. Apple adopted it to save space on iPhones. The problem is compatibility: many Windows programs, older Android apps, and most government and job websites still expect JPG or PNG.

Step by step

  1. Copy the HEIC photos from your iPhone to your computer, or open this page directly on the phone.
  2. Open HEIC to JPG.
  3. Select one or more .heic or .heif files. Use + Add more files to include photos from another folder.
  4. Choose the output: JPG for smaller files, or PNG for lossless quality.
  5. Click Convert photos, then Download.

JPG or PNG?

Choose JPG for almost everything: uploading to websites, sending by email or WhatsApp, and inserting into documents. JPG files are small and universally supported. Choose PNG only when you need every pixel preserved, for example for editing in design software — PNG files are much larger.

Stop your iPhone creating HEIC files

If you regularly need JPGs, change the camera setting: open Settings → Camera → Formats and select Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. Photos you already took remain HEIC, so convert those with the tool above.

Other ways iPhones share photos

When you share a photo from the iPhone Photos app by email or AirDrop to a non-Apple device, iOS often converts it to JPG automatically. Copying files over a USB cable or through some cloud apps keeps the original HEIC. That is why the same photo may arrive as JPG one day and HEIC the next.

What to do next

  • Need the photo under a size limit for a form? Run the JPG through Resize Image to KB.
  • Need several photos as one document? Combine them with JPG to PDF.
  • Photographed paper documents? Scan to PDF gives a cleaner, scanner-like result.

Common questions

Will converting reduce quality? JPG conversion keeps very high visual quality. For completely lossless output, choose PNG.

Can I convert many photos at once? Yes. Select them all and they are converted together.

Are my photos uploaded? No. Conversion runs inside your browser, so personal photos stay on your device.

Your file never leaves your device.
